Make a Scarecrow: Class

Enjoy a fun stuffed morning as you and your family build your own scarecrow. Bring old shirts, overalls, hats and gloves, etc. to dress your creation. The hay, the heads and 100s of buttons, silk flowers and other gew-gaws will be supplied.

Handi-Women: Power Tool Woodworking Workshop

Go further with the power tools you used in the Basic Woodworking class and learn to use some new ones to create a unique project. Unlock ore of the power and potential of the plunge router and fixed router, among others, all with safe practices under Dave’s supervision and guidance. Gain the skills an confidence needed to complete power tool projects at home. Prerequisite: Handi-Women Woodworking class.

Grow Vegtables Organically: Summer Class

Act Now for Spring Success (Thursdays for 2 weeks, 10 am to 11:30 am, 10/6 & 10/13)

Growing food organically is a four season enterprise. Learn when and what to do now and over the winter to protect, feed and nourish your soil. Evaluate what’s been going on in your garden this past season and begin to map next year’s rotational planting chart. Look at clearing, composting and cover cropping to enrich the earth over the winter. If you’re planning your first garden, this is a great time to begin! Includes some hands-on experience at the Willows Cottage farm.

Thank you for your continued support of the Cottage. We thank you for supporting us by purchasing a ticket to win a Smart Car.

Unfortunately, we were not able to raise enough money to raffle the car and we didn’t meet the regulations to do the alternative of a 50/50 drawing.
If you purchased a raffle ticket we would like to offer you two options:
We can return the donation of $20 to you;
Or if you choose you may donate the money to the Cottage as a charitable contribution. We will send you a letter for tax purposes for your donation to our 501c3.

If we do not hear from you in we will return the donation to you.

Friends of the Willows Cottage Updates for 2011

Happy New Year from the Friends of the WIllows Cottage! The end of 2010 was full of exciting developments for us; here are some highlights:

• We are pleased to announce that the energy conservation work as funded by the Pennsylvania Conservation Works grant has been substantially completed, and is now in its “punch list” stages.

• In collaboration with the Radnor Historical Society, we are organizing an event for this spring. Former residents of the Willows Cottage, from the days when the Willows was an active estate, will share their recollections of living there. Stay tuned to this page for more details, and the exact date of this exciting event.

• The Friends of the Willows Cottage has received its 501(c)(3) status, and is now an officially recognized non-profit organization by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania!

Hundreds of people attended the first ever Harvest Festival at the Willows Cottage on October 25th. Great music, delicious food, and fun was had by all. Check out the video!

Willows Wishlist: Items needed for our efforts

In order to reach our goals for a substantial, green, and useful restoration of the Willows Cottage, there are many items that are still needed. Donations or leads to us obtaining these items are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate an item, you may request a tax letter via the Radnor Conservancy.

If you have donations or leads to the below items, please write to info@willowscottage.org.

· Commercial Glass Door Refrigerator for Stable area

· Hanging Scales

· Old Looking fans – either wall mount or on stand

· Small [<6-feet] wagon

· Old Looking Speakers [for music in pick-up area]

· Shallow utility sink made of soapstone or concrete

· Stove – either electric or gas for Cottage –this and fridge should be ‘matched set’ stainless preferable

· Refrigerator for Farmer’s Cottage

· Old looking wooden bench

· Wood framed chalk boards to hang on walls

· Kitchen cabinets

· 2 single beds; one double

· Old wooden soda/milk/potato bins

· Old farm implements

· Old Mason jars/ milk bottles, milk jugs [to hold flowers] etc.

· Old signs: vegetable related

· Low VOC paint [colors to be chosen by Deb Bettcher]

· Window sashes

· VOLUNTEER TO TEND BEE HIVES
